PER Principal Consultant, Rupert Bell, spoke recently to journalist Selin Bucack for Financial News about the latest trends in hiring among private equity firms amid the coronavirus crisis. Rupert reported a slowdown – about a third at the time of the interview and (as a subsequent update) this has increased to roughly half of PER's live roles that were still at early stages since then. However, crucially, later stage roles are carrying on via video conference and offers are continuing to be made and accepted.
He pointed to the long-term security of the private equity asset class and said that demand for professionals to put money to work would continue to be high. In particular, Rupert said that we are still seeing recruitment demand for restructuring, portfolio, finance and investor relations professionals.
